Raymond, with a Dutch mother and Swiss father, grew up in a multilingual household: He speaks Dutch, French, German and Swiss-German. He started racing in 2001, but he got the most enjoyment on his bike from exploring the Jura and Doubs countryside on the small roads and trails of the region. He was clearly talented – he finished third in the Swiss mountain championships as a junior in 2001 and second as a U23 in 2005 – but it wasn’t until he discovered cyclocross in 2007 that his passion for racing was truly awakened. The next year he was the top amateur in the Swiss rankings and he started racing internationally. When he’s not racing, Raymond enjoys music and the outdoors. He also has a diploma in commerce.
