Martin Gilbert grew up in Chateauguay on the south shore of Montreal. Growing up he was interested in a lot of sports, including triathlon, surfing, but above all cycling and hockey. Cycling won out over hockey as a competitive sport when he was 16. Martin has been a member of the Canadian national cycling team since he was a junior and he represented Canada at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Alongside Martin’s career in sport he is working towards a pharmacy degree from the Université de Montreal. Martin can sometimes be found surfing the standing waves in the St. Lawrence river around the island of Montreal – seriously.
