The 2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge continued Friday in Colorado, USA, with the fifth of six stages, a 171-km road race between Steamboat Springs and Breckenridge, which featured 3,325 metres of climbing.
Today’s stage was won for a second consecutive day in a bunch sprint by Elia Viviani of Liquigas-Cannondale. Viviani crossed the finish line with a time of 4:04:31, beating Jaime Castaneda of Team Une-EPM, and his teammate Daniel Oss.
Levi Leipheimer of Team RadioShack, overall leader by 11 seconds over Christian Vandevelde of Garmin-Cervélo, is only one day away from winning this gruelling stage race. This season, Leipheimer has already won the 2011 AMGEN Tour of California as well as the 2011 Tour of Utah.
SpiderTech’s Flavio De Luna of Mexico is still sitting third in the best young rider rankings, led by Elia Viviani.
