Andrew Randell just finished up the Tour of Utah and, along with the rest of his SpiderTech p/b C10 teammates, is heading to Colorado for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Andrew brings us up to date:
Sunday was the queen stage of the Tour of Utah, the mountain top finish that everyone was looking for to decide the GC. I ended up pulling out of the race in the middle of the stage as the tendonitis in my shin was acting up. Since it wasn’t a race where I could contend for any kind of significant placing I decided that it was best to stop before irritating it to the point where it would flare up again. It was disappointing to stop but that’s how it goes sometimes. I’d rather the tendonitis was cleared up completely before starting Colorado next week.
Monday we started the drive across to Colorado. We’ve got a week to kill between the races and so find ourselves in the small town of Hotchkiss, Colo., for a couple of nights, en route to Leadville where we spend a couple of more days before finishing up in Colorado Springs where the Tour of Colorado starts. It was a long day in the van but at least now we can all relax.
This week will be long and boring mainly. There isn’t any training to be done, 1-2 hours a day easy for the most part. It’s all about resting up and getting as fresh as possible for Colorado.
Check back in a week and I’ll be writing about the Tour of Colorado, where we ride at some real altitude (12,000ft) unlike the lowlands in Salt Lake City.
