Euser, McCarty finish in Top 10 of General Classification at Tour of Utah
Team SpiderTech powered by C10 just concluded yesterday two major stage races – the Tour de l’Ain in France and the Tour of Utah in the United States, and posted some significant results in Utah with two riders in the top 10 overall.
On the fourth of five stages — a 129-km race on a tough circuit in Salt Lake City — both Lucas Euser (Napa, CA) and Pat McCarty (Austin, TX) rode extremely well and went for the win. They finished respectively sixth and seventh in the stage, and made some great gains in the general classification.
“The team rode super on Saturday making the breakaway of the day. McCarty, Euser, and Randell The team did everything for the stage win,” said Directeur Sportif Steve Bauer. “Randell opened up the attacking on the first time up the climb. The large group of 25 men in the breakaway put huge pressure on Radio Shack, but the teams were not able to bring the break back.”
On the last day of this five-day stage race, the finish was a challenging climb at Snowbird. The two SpiderTech riders were in the thick of the action on both major climbs of the day and finished 7th and 10th, gaining more positions in the general classification.
During this final stage Sunday, no breaks were let go before the first tough Sundance climb. The peloton exploded with the Columbian team constantly on the attack. Leipheimer and the Team Radio Shack kept the race close, marking the Columbians all day. They rode tough and smart, and Euser and MCarty were in the mix throughout. On the final climb to snowbird, Leiphiemer hung on to Henao, winning the overall.
“Just behind the best five riders of the race, McCarty and Euser finished strong moving up to 8th and 9th respectively on general classification,” said Bauer of this last stage. “A very commendable performance from the Team SpiderTech climbers and an exciting performance before the USA challenge in Colorado in one week.”
In the Team rankings, Team SpiderTech finished the race fifth amongst the 16 teams.
