A horrific crash has temporarily sidelined Will Routley from SpiderTech p/b C10′s European racing program. Will tells the story:
Our first race back in Europe and I lasted 40 minutes. I crashed out in the Sparkassen Giro on July 31st. It was probably the worst crash I’ve ever had, hitting my face into a fence going about 65 kmph. I was extremely lucky though, as it could have been a lot worse. I suffered a concussion, got stitches in 3 cuts on my face, and my eye was black and swollen shut. Talk about a shiner! My body was pretty beaten up, but nothing broken. That was less than two weeks ago, it’s amazing how fast the head heals, as I just took the stitches out last night, and concuccion symptoms are gone, what a relief. The remaining injuries are to my quad, and something is still wrong with my hand, maybe a bit of ligament damage? I just let go of the handlebars when riding, as bumps in the road are less than pleasant.
So for recovery, I’m holed up in a hotel in Chambery France, it is a gorgeous area, good weather and scenery, and a huge lake nearby. We’ve even gone for the odd swim. The recovery is going really well, and I’ll be coming back to racing at the Tour du Limousin on the 16th, so again, I feel pretty lucky my season wasn’t ended altogether. I am not sure how Limousin will feel, but I am certain I’ll be flying for the Pro Tour events in Montreal and Quebec.
So… good luck to the guys who are racing this week, I can’t wait to join them next week!
