Saturday was the last day of our team camp. After the final race at the Mardi Lachine, the whole team went to Bromont for an intensive 4 day training camp to be ready and top shape for the season final stretch (Tour of Missouri and Univest GP). The team entered the GP St-Basile, a 150km race on a hilly course, open to the wind; for the last effort of the camp. Since the race was not specifically a goal, but specific training, the strategy was simple: race against each other until the last lap. At that point everything should be in place to win the race.
The team opened the race hard, attacking each other, chasing each other until 3 made the break of 4 riders up front. Eventually, just after mid race, the important breakaway went and stayed away. Bruno, Andrew Randell and Keir were the first 4 riders of the team to initiate the break with 45sec with Martin, Keven, I plus 2 riders from Volkswagen/Spec bridged to the break. We took 2 minutes lead right away under the pressure by Martin, Andrew R, Kevin, and Bruno. Keir and I had to watch the two Volks/Spec riders who were taking advantage to the free ride. At one lap to go, Bruno launched the 1st attack in the break and took 15sec. Then Keir and I bridged to Bruno. No other rider could follow us and we raced to the line together. Andrew Randell finished 4th. Big thanks to my team mates for this victory and to Steve and Josée for the training camp. I think everyone will be on track for a strong end of season.
