Good Friday Road Race – OCup #1

 Team Planet Energy lined up for the 2009 edition of the Good Friday road race with just three guys: Andrew Randell, Buck Miller and myself. The plan was to take care of me as Andrew was not feeling 100% and Buck was still building his fitness after a long winter. The first half of the race was relatively controlled with no breaks establishing any significant gaps. With three laps to go, things started to take shape with Andrew slipping away in a medium-sized group that eventually bridged up to the leaders. I, however, was stuck in the bunch waiting for an opportunity to bridge. On the first hill of that lap, I managed to sneak away and make it into the front group – from then on the action started. We were not keen for a sprint finish and decided to start attacking as soon as we hit the hills on the last lap. A few guys matched the effort initially, but it came down to Andrew and I together at the finish. We discussed the outcome and decided that Andrew would take the win – you’ll have to ask him as to the reason why. Buck rolled in with the bunch, content with getting some early season racing miles in his legs, making seven wins for the team so far in ‘09
