In recognition of his fantastic season, my team mate Ryan Roth has recently been celebrated as the 2008 Road Male Athlete of the year by the Ontario Cycling Association. Ryan is an admirable character and a team mate that I look up to immensely.
Ryan is a model professional with great class, he has a clear head and a calm demeanour that belies the violent power that he will let out through his pedals. He covers his bases in advance and always arrives prepared and ready to go with all necessary details considered well beforehand.Â
Ryan’s work ethic and diligence in regards to his training are renowned, if he targets a race you know that he will arrive with great form. He remains unflustered under fire, with an unbending focus for the critical moments of any race or season. Perhaps Ryan’s greatest racing strength is his ability to get the absolute most out of himself at precisely the right moment. I can bring a great deal to my own cycling by simply following Ryan and trying to carry myself in a similar fashion.
Above all of this however; Ryan is a genuine, honest, and understanding person who has never lost a speck of passion for the sport of cycling. We should all take this chance to congratulate him on his accomplishments thus far in his career; there are surely a great deal more to come. Â
